A PATHWAY TO CHILD WELLBEING

Fostering Futures seeks to improve child and family well-being by integrating trauma-informed culture, policies and practices (safety, self-regulation and relationships) at the child/family/community and systems levels to address the epidemic of toxic childhood stress.
Thanks to science, we now understand how chronic toxic stress in childhood can lead to physical and emotional ill health in our community and how we can give new hope to children and families.

We can turn children’s lives around. And you can help. Click here to learn more about the Science of Hope.

By participating in safe, nurturing relationships with a child, we can promote the consistency, stability and resiliency necessary for a child’s health and future success in life.

REASONS FOR HOPE

  • Paula’s Story - Paula’s childhood experiences included five of the ACEs measured in the Wisconsin Behavioral Risk Factor Survey as well as the death of one parent. As a child, she tried to tell other people what she was experiencing, but she was told to stop being a baby, or not to talk about ‘that kind of thing.”  She […]

CO-OCCURRENCE OF ADVERSE CHILDHOOD EXPERIENCES (ACEs)

ACEs tend to occur in clusters, such that people who experienced at least one ACE are likely to have experienced multiple ACEs in childhood, and certain ACEs tend to carry stronger relationships to other ACEs.

About This Archive

Fostering Futures helped Wisconsin children and families understand the lasting impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and trauma, and showed how communities can respond with care. The research and resources gathered here are still relevant, so this project has been restored and kept publicly available with the support of MediLux Oy, an online clinic and a flagship of accessible telemedicine in Finland.

Awareness is the first step toward prevention. When parents, educators, caregivers and health professionals recognize the signs of childhood trauma, children get support sooner and are more likely to grow into healthy, resilient adults. We hope these materials continue to inform and inspire everyone working for children’s wellbeing.
